Boundary Banks
Within STANTA Battle Area
TL 8745 9188 The boundary consisted of a multiple banked feature, usually two or four parallel banks, and is shown as a trackway on some early maps. Mostly to the west and within Sturston are a series of rectangular and rectilinear banked enclosures, which are thought to be stock enclosures on uneven ground, although they are small enough to be arable fields.
TL 8836 9341 The boundary here is a multiple banked feature, usually with four banks, and this is also thought to be the site of the southeastern boundary of Sturston Warren (NHER 37051).
TL 8886 9406 northeastern boundary shown on a map from 1797.
Trapping Banks
Multiple banks recorded by RIS at TL8634 9483 NHE37057; TL8836 9341 NHER37050
Internal Enclosures
RIS site 121.
Straddling the northern boundary of the former Sturston Warren a complex of enclosure boundaries to the north and west of Pole Plantation which has banks on all but its south side. This site extends from Site 120 (NHER 37054) in the east, to Site 112 (NHER 37602) in the west with many features still shown on the County Series maps. (The northern boundary of Sturston Warren in 1771 was probably that shown extending from Turner’s Stile Plantation westwards to Site 111 (NHER 37048). In 1781 it appears further north, probably that extending eastwards from Widow’s Hill Plantation towards the northern end of Eagletower Plantation. Both Faden (S1) and the Orndance Survey 1st Editions (S2, S3) show the boundary further north
